Brother James C. “Bo” Brown brought 27 years in The Faith and nearly 17 years of ministry service with him when he accepted the call to become the Pastor of Community Baptist Church in February 2005. He also brought along an insatiable love of God and of God’s people, regardless of their circumstances. His welcoming and caring spirit fit wonderfully with a church family already known for its warmth and friendliness. With Brother Bo’s steadfast seeking of God’s direction for us individually and collectively, and the willingness of our church family to capture that vision and put it into practice, we have been wonderfully blessed in the recent past months with unexpected growth and ministry opportunities abound
“What an honor it is to serve God, and what a joy to do so here as Pastor of Community Baptist Church,” Brother Bo exclaims. “We serve a mighty God who is doing miraculous things in our body of believers and shows no signs of stopping. How can I say anything other than ‘God is Good – All the Time!’”
A Birmingham native, Brother Bo graduated from Ensley High School and then graduated from the University of Montevallo in 1990 with a degree in English and a minor in Guidance and Counseling. While still a student at the University of Montevallo, he entered the ministry and began serving as Minister of Youth at Shady Grove Baptist Church. Subsequent ministries were at Katherwood Baptist Church, in Birmingham, and the First Baptist Church of Hoover, where he served as that church’s bi-vocational Associate Pastor and Minister of Students before accepting the call to be our Pastor.
He and Stephanie, his wife of over 15 years, have been blessed with four outstanding and lovely daughters: Claudia, Caitie, Chloe, and Cana. The girls’ many school and other activities can captivate much of the Browns’ “free” time. His hobbies and favorite past-times include playing golf, going to the beach and to the mountains. He is a big Auburn football fan.
Brother Bo is currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Divinity through the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary at its Birmingham Extension. He was licensed by the Shady Grove Baptist Church in 1990 and ordained by the Katherwood Baptist Church in 1996. In addition, Brother Bo has achieved certification status with regard to the FAITH Sunday School-based Evangelism Training, the CWT Evangelism Training, and the MasterLife Discipleship Program.
