Matt Monk joined the staff as Education Minister at Communty Baptist Church in April, 2010. As Education Minister, Matt oversees the church’s Sunday School and Discipleship Training programs and serves on the church’s Outreach and Visitation and Nominating Ministry teams. It is Matt’s goal to help and support the church by providing the people of Community with opportunities to study God’s word, build relationships with one another, find places of service within the church, and stay connected in the community.
A native of Cullman, Alabama, Matt comes from a family that has been dedicated to church and to ministering to others for several generations starting with Matt’s great great grandfather who was a Methodist minister in Alabama and Georgia. However, at an early age, Matt realized that he would have to make his own decision to follow Jesus Christ, which Matt did at the age of six. Since that time, one of Matt’s greatest joys is studying God’s word and spending time with Him. In 2003, Matt begin to sense a need to minister and teach God’s word to others, a desire that has grown greater leading up to Matt’s call to serve as Education Minister in 2010.
Matt is a 1998 graduate of Fairview High School in Cullman. Matt attended Wallace State College in Hanvceville and the University of Alabama Birmingham where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management. Matt is currently employed by Baptist Health System as an internal coding auditor.
In 2002, Matt met Mary Ledford online. The two struck up a conversation that eventually led to them meeting in person, dating, and becoming engaged in June, 2002. On June 7, 2003, Matt and Mary were married in Adamsville. Since that time God has blessed them with six beautiful children, Jesse (7), Lilly (6), Bella (5), Noah (3), Grayson (2), and Eli (5 months). They are expecting their seventh child in September, 2012. God has blessed Matt in his work to where he is able to work from home for Baptist Health System. Mary is a stay-at-home mom and teacher as she homeschools the oldest three through Hope Christian School.
Matt and Mary joined Community in September 2006 and quickly became involved in activities within the church. Mary serves in the Worship Choir and has previously served as Nursery/Preschool Director. Before coming the Education Minister, Matt served as a deacon and as a Sunday School teacher. They consider it an honor and privilege to serve their church and raise their kids in a church where Gods love is felt and His word is taught.
One of Matt’s favorite verses is Philippians 1:6 in that it says:
“I am sure of this, that He who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.“
Matt hopes as a minister, he can help people to see and recognize God’s work in their lives. If Matt can help or minister to you in any way, please e-mail him at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 205-368-8785.
